Kanai Edward Paul, Jr. 82, of Munhall formerly Greenfield. Passed suddenly on Monday, October 6, 2025. Preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Kanai, Sr.; brother, James; and sister in laws Kate and Rosann. Survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Judy Kanai; beloved children, Edward (Elyse) Kanai III, Jessica Kanai, Michael (Laura) Kanai, and Jeff “Gus” (Angie) Kanai; grandchildren, Tyler (Angie) Kanai and Samantha Kanai; great grandchildren, Aleeah, Saylor, and Walker; Siblings, David, Donald, Christine (Thomas) Grana, Dennis (Cynthia), Timothy (Janet), Peter (Polly); and sister in law, Teresa Sciarretti. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Edward was a proud Central Catholic graduate. Following high school he attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. Where he gained his diploma in Funeral Directing and Embalming in 1964. Being the eldest of 8 children, Ed took over the family business when he was just 23 years old.

Funeral Director was his title, but people were his vocation. Jokes were his distraction. Kindness, generosity and compassion were his gifts. His love was boundless. He gave so much of it to families in need, yet his own family never lacked. He was a wonderful doting husband, father, and teacher to the Funeral Directors he raised, Ed Himich, Brenda Trale and numerous others.

Ed was honored and humbled to serve his friends and community. 

Of all the fruitful relationships Ed had here on earth. He had the strongest of all with God. We are comforted knowing he is reunited with so many who have gone before him. 

Friends will be received on Saturday from 5-8 P.M. and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. in The Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home 500 Greenfield Ave. 15207. Everyone, please meet at Church for the Funeral Mass on Monday at 12 P.M. in St. Paul Cathedral Parish--St. Rosalia Worship Site. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Greenfield Baseball Association
