Michael J. Yeosock
Yeosock Funeral Home - Funeral Director/Owner
Michael J. Yeosock, aged 89, of Plains Township, concluded his remarkable journey of life on March 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Plains Township, Michael was the son of John and Elizabeth (Petras) Yeosock. His early years saw him through Plains Memorial High School, followed by Penn State, and later, the Eckels Institute of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia.
For over six decades, Michael devoted himself to the Yeosock Funeral Home, profoundly serving the community. His dedication extended to roles such as Luzerne County Deputy Coroner, Secretary/Treasurer of the Luzerne County Funeral Directors’ Association, and as a charter member of the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Miner’s Mills. There, he actively engaged in various leadership capacities. His commitment to the profession was further evident through his 15-year service on the Pennsylvania State Board of Professional Funeral Directors, including a five-year tenure as Chairman.
Michael’s life was marked by a love for adventure. He was an avid participant in sports car rallies, where he met his beloved wife, Patricia Ann (Sauerwein), sharing 63 years of marriage. His 1958 MG A convertible was more than a car; it was a symbol of his adventurous spirit. This spirit also led him to the skies, obtaining private, instrument, and commercial pilot licenses. His passion for aviation blossomed into an innovative air hearse/ambulance business and eventually to the stewardship of the Wyoming Valley Airport (WBW) in Forty-Fort under Columbia Aviation.
Michael's legacy, however, transcends his professional achievements. He will be cherished as a gentleman of kind words and warm smiles, a loving husband, an exemplary father, and an indulgent grandfather and great-grandfather.
He leaves behind a loving family: his wife Pat; children, Michael M. Yeosock and wife Jackie Clemente (White Plains, NY), David M Yeosock and wife Margiee (Plymouth, PA), Michelle Y. Woodyear and husband Greg Gendron (Washington, DC). Grandchildren, Olivia and husband Eric Drevitch (Wilkes-Barre, PA), Julia and husband Mikhail Boris (Charolette, NC), Adrianna Yeosock (White Plains, NY), Carli Woodyear (Williamsburg, VA), Christopher Yeosock (White Plains, NY) and two precious great grandchildren Ezra and Clara.
A Funeral Service in his honor will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 10 am at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre. All services on Saturday will be in Holy Trinity Church. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Yeosock Funeral Home, Plains, on Friday, March 22nd, from 4 to 6 pm, with a Parastas to follow. The Luzerne County Funeral Directors Association will conduct a service at 5:30 PM that day. Michael will be interred at Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.
