SPRING GROVE – Christopher M. Beck, President of Beck Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, age 62, of Spring Grove, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 22, 2026. He was the loving and devoted husband of his high school sweetheart, Laura A. (Scottoline) Beck; together they shared 35 years of marriage.
Chris was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 12, 1963. His lifelong dream was to become a Funeral Director and own and operate his own funeral home. After obtaining his Funeral Director’s license and working in the Philadelphia area, his dream came true on June 1, 2009 when he purchased the former Robert E. Irwin Funeral Home in Spring Grove. For the past 17 years Chris faithfully, selflessly, and fervently served his community of Spring Grove. This small town became his home, and the community became his family. He worked tirelessly to serve those who called on him in their time of need. Chris put others before himself in every aspect of his life, especially while working. He was a humble, gentle, warm, and kind soul who touched the lives of everyone who encountered him.
Chris had a vision and plan for the future, to grow his business and leave a legacy for his sons. In 2019 he opened his Funeral Home in East York and in 2020 he purchased the former Murphy Funeral Home in McSherrystown. Just like Spring Grove, the communities and residents of East York and McSherrystown became his focus and he earned the respect of each and every family he served through his kind and gentle heart.
Chris was a simple man. He found great joy and pleasure in time spent on the golf course and at his vacation home in Ocean City, MD. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed entertaining family and friends on his boat, unofficially named “The Undertaker,” while he took others fishing on the bay and in the ocean. He was a loyal and dedicated friend, having friendships that have lasted since elementary school, and many others that have formed in the last few years. Anyone who met Chris remarked on his kindness and generosity. He was considered a friend by all who knew him. He was humble and gave to others before he gave to himself.
Above all, Chris was a doting and loving family man. He cherished his wife Laura, and his children were always at the forefront of his life each and every day. He bragged about his children to anyone who would listen and he was a constant source of support and love in their lives. Chris never missed an opportunity to tell his children how much he loved them and how proud he was of each of them. Chris’ most recent joy was the birth of his grandson, Oliver. His new favorite title was “Pop” and looked forward to teaching him, caring for him, and loving him as he grew up. Chris never missed a chance to see his grandson, read to him, play with him, and shower him with his love. He would move mountains for his family, children, and grandson. The absence of his love and protection will leave an unbearable void in the hearts of his wife and children.
In addition to his loving wife Laura, Chris is survived by his adoring children Gabriella R. Wilt and husband Brandon, Nicholas C. Beck and fiancée Bianca Harbold, Vincent C. Beck, and Victoria R. Beck; his cherished grandson Oliver M. Wilt; his sister-in-law Lisa M. Mazzenga and husband Tommy; and his nephews Dominic Mazzenga and Michael Mazzenga.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Rd., York, PA 17402 with Rev. Kyle Sahd as celebrant and Rev. Richard Lyons, Rev. Dwight Schlaline, Rev. Philip Burger, Rev. Michael Reid, Rev. Joseph Gotwalt, and Rev. Javed Kashif as concelebrants. Interment will be private. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 3:00PM – 5:00PM at his beloved Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of Spring Grove, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, PA 17362 and on Monday from 10:00AM – 11:00AM prior to the Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Chris was a generous man, professionally and personally. He gave to many charitable organizations throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Chris’ memory may be made to a charity that is meaningful to you, or through a simple act of kindness to someone else.
Our Family has comforted and consoled the community for years. It is now your turn to hold us in your hearts and prayers in our time of need as we navigate such a significant and painful loss.
